'OK, Big Boy'

Sen. Trent Lott (R.-Miss.) told the Washington Times last week that when he heard President Bush’s threat to veto any legislation blocking the UAE ports deal, "I was offended." Bush, said Lott, "threatened me before I even knew the details of what was involved or whether I was going to vote for the bill or not." Lott’s reaction: "OK, big boy, I’ll just vote to override your veto."

Lott said he called an unnamed White House official to personally lodge an objection to the President’s tactic. "Don’t threaten me like that again," Lott said he told the official. "It doesn’t make a difference if you’re a Republican or a Democrat. Don’t put your fist in my face. Where I’m from, we’re willing to fight back."
