Debbie Wasserman Schultz caught lying about lying

A follow-up to a story from yesterday: DNC chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz angrily denied the Washington Examiner story that quoted her fabricating words from Israeli ambassador Michael Oren, insisting that the Examiner somehow ???misquoted??? her.  At a training session for Jewish campaign operatives on Monday, Wasserman Schultz claimed, ???As we know, and I???ve heard no less than Ambassador Michael Oren say this, that what the Republicans are doing is dangerous for Israel.???

Oren released a statement on Tuesday saying, ???I categorically deny that I ever characterized Republican policies as harmful to Israel. Bipartisan support is a paramount national interest for Israel, and we have great friends on both sides of the aisle.???

Tuesday night, DWS denied the falsehoods attributed to her during a Fox News interview: ???I didn???t say he said that.  And unfortunately, that comment was reported by a conservative newspaper. It???s not surprising they would deliberately misquote me.  What I always say is that unfortunately the Republicans have made Israel a political football, which is dangerous for Israel.  And Ambassador Oren has said that we can???t ever suggest that there is any daylight between the two parties on Israel because there isn???t.  And that that???s harmful to Israel. That???s what I said, and that is accurate.???

Unfortunately for the truth-challenged DNC chair, Examiner reporter Philip Klein has an audio recording of Wasserman Schultz that backs up his report:

Far be it for me to put an end to the clown act that Democrats have decided should be running their national committee ??? Debbie Wasserman Schultz is the best DNC chair the RNC ever had ??? but her mendacity is bringing us into the realm of international embarrassment.  It was already common knowledge that Wasserman Schultz is a serial liar ??? on one memorable recent occasion, when CNN host Wolf Blitzer called her out for lying about Paul Ryan???s Medicare reform proposals, she essentially insisted that the urgency of her political agenda gives her the right to lie as necessary.  (The Blaze timed the encounter with a stopwatch and discovered that it took just over three minutes of gentle but firm prodding from Blitzer to get DWS to tell the truth, which might just be a world record.  Congratulations, Mr. Blitzer!)

But Wasserman Schultz has moved beyond political hackery ??? she???s arguably in need of mental therapy.  Did she really think Ambassador Oren would sit quietly by while she put words in his mouth?  Can she possibly have imagined that reporters covering her false claims weren???t recording her words?  The voters in her district have been given good reason to question her mental competence.

And if a reporter who doesn’t work for Glamour or Entertainment Weekly gets a shot at asking President Obama a question, shouldn’t he be asked if he supports a Party chair who fabricates quotes from the Israeli ambassador, in order to score cheap and outrageous partisan political points?  Or does Obama not care about that?
